Aji Moruga
Aji Moruga is a unique F2 phenotype believed to have originated from an Aji Charapita × Trinidad Moruga Scorpion cross. This striking selection produces unusually large, thick-bodied pods with deep folds, heavy lobing, and a distinctive pushed-in or recessed tip. The pods ripen from green to a brilliant red and are dramatically larger and heavier than the small, round fruit traditionally associated with the Aji Charapita.
The flavor is fruity and slightly floral, followed by a powerful, building burn. With an estimated heat range of 600,000–1,000,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), Aji Moruga delivers serious heat and is an excellent choice for hot sauces, powders, flakes, salsas, and other recipes where both flavor and extreme heat are desired.
This is an F2 phenotype and is not yet considered stable. Because the genetics are still segregating, growers should expect possible variations in pod shape, size, color, texture, heat level, and other characteristics. Future generations may produce some especially interesting phenotypes, making this an exciting variety for growers who enjoy working with developing crosses and making their own selections.
