Big Green Mama is a rare and unusual superhot believed to be an unstable green phenotype or cross related to the Big Black Mama lineage. The original Big Black Mama was created by renowned pepper breeder Troy Primeaux (Primo) from a cross between the Naga Morich and 7 Pot Douglah, two varieties known for tremendous heat and heavily textured pods. Big Green Mama appears to carry many of those same characteristics while producing its distinctive green coloration.

The pods are large, thick, heavily wrinkled, and gnarly, with the aggressive appearance associated with the Mama line. Unlike the deep chocolate-brown color of the traditional Big Black Mama, this phenotype develops green to olive-green pods at maturity. Pod shape can range from squat and blocky to somewhat elongated, with deep folds and irregular lobes.

Heat is estimated at approximately 1,000,000–1,200,000 SHU, putting Big Green Mama firmly in the superhot category. Flavor is bold and complex, with earthy and vegetal notes followed by an intense, long-lasting burn. It is well suited for extremely hot sauces, powders, flakes, and other applications where serious heat is desired.

This particular Big Green Mama is believed to be an unstable F2-generation cross or phenotype. Because the genetics have not yet stabilized, growers should expect natural variation in pod color, shape, size, texture, and potentially heat level. Some plants may closely resemble the pictured green phenotype, while others may express characteristics inherited from earlier generations. This genetic diversity makes it an especially interesting variety for growers who enjoy selecting and developing unique pepper phenotypes.
