Chocolate Aji Phantom
The Chocolate Aji Phantom is a unique, unstable Aji-type phenotype that emerged from a developing line with uncertain genetics. This selection produces attractive elongated pods that ripen to deep chocolate, burgundy, and reddish-brown tones. Pods develop thick shoulders, irregular wrinkling, and tapered pointed ends, giving them a distinctive appearance unlike the original Aji-type pepper from which this phenotype emerged.
With an estimated heat range of 125,000–400,000 Scoville Heat Units (SHU), Chocolate Aji Phantom delivers substantial heat along with the fruity, slightly floral character commonly associated with many Aji and Capsicum chinense varieties. Its combination of flavor and heat makes it well suited for hot sauces, powders, flakes, salsas, and fresh use for experienced chile enthusiasts.
This is an unstable developing phenotype, so variations in pod shape, size, color, texture, and heat should be expected in future generations. This makes Chocolate Aji Phantom especially interesting for growers who enjoy growing unusual genetics and selecting their own unique phenotypes.
