Jamaican Mushroom Yellow
Often mistaken for a yellow Scotch Bonnet, the Jamaican Mushroom Yellow is a distinct variety with its own unique characteristics. While similar in appearance, this pepper belongs to a different species (Capsicum annuum) and can be identified by its larger calyx where the stem meets the fruit. Pods are squat and slightly flattened, with a shape that resembles a small mushroom cap.
Heat levels are estimated around 150,000 Scoville units, offering a noticeable burn that is generally milder than a true Scotch Bonnet. The flavor stands out with a bright, citrus-forward profile, making it an excellent choice for sauces, salsas, and fresh use where both heat and flavor are desired.
