Purple UFO is an eye-catching pepper variety known for its unusual flying-saucer-shaped pods and dramatic coloration. Young peppers develop in brilliant shades of violet and deep purple, often becoming nearly black before transitioning toward burgundy and rich red as they fully mature. The flattened, pointed pods combined with the plant’s dark pigmentation make this an excellent variety for growers who want something both ornamental and edible.

Purple UFO peppers are generally reported in the 30,000–45,000 Scoville Heat Unit (SHU) range, putting them around cayenne-level heat and considerably hotter than the average jalapeño.  The heat tends to arrive quickly but doesn’t linger as long as many hotter varieties.

Flavor develops as the pods mature, with fully ripe peppers offering a mildly sweet, fruity and tangy character. Their moderate heat makes Purple UFO versatile in the kitchen and well suited for fresh salsas, pickling, hot sauces, pepper flakes, and powders.
